EV24-M1-M4_001

From the Bard Collection, www.himalayana.com

Expedition advertising postcard addressed to Christchurch, New Zealand bearing a KGV 1a and ½a India stamp tied by Yatung cancel (Hel B47) dated 4 Jul 24. Card bears an expedition label tied by the expedition mark in black (M3b) and a second expedition label tied by the expedition M4 mark. This is the only recorded combination of these two marks.

From www.himalayana.com, "Possibly the earliest recorded use of the advertising postcard - 4th July 1924, from Yatung. The use of two Everest labels is very rare, as is the possibly unique combination of the Tractor Party cachet and the Base Camp cachet (usually applied in red). It is also unlikely that any card sent from the expedition travelled further than New Zealand. The fact that it was such a long way for the card to travel perhaps motivated the sender (presumed to be from John Noel) to give it special attention and make it unique."
