Cover to London, England and forwarded to Guernsey, Channel Islands. For forwarding purposes, the cover bears a Great Britain KEVIII 1½d tied by " Portsmouth & Southsea" cancel dated 29 Jan 37. The reverse includes a note "Rather late now but the envelope may interest". The cover shows 1 expedition mark in violet annotated with "Base Camp". The cover includes a long letter.

Text includes: "... We reached Base Camp yesterday. Everest looks magnificent but unclimbable! ... As soon as the lower camps are established I shall go onto camp IV at 23,000 ft. with Smythe and Skipton who will make the first attack on the summit" plus other details about the weather and location.
